Be respectful
withsilasogar is a place to learn in public: questions, answers, showcase projects, crews, community channels, reviews and bounties. That only works when people feel safe asking a beginner question or sharing unfinished work.
- Assume good intent, and be patient with people who are just starting out.
- Give feedback on the work, not the person. Be specific and kind.
- Disagree with ideas without insults, mockery or pile-ons.
- Keep posts on topic for the course, channel or crew you're in.
What isn't allowed
Anywhere on the service — posts, replies, messages, reviews, profile names and photos, crew names and submissions:
- Harassment or bullying: targeting, threatening, intimidating or repeatedly contacting someone who doesn't want it, or sharing their personal information.
- Hate speech: attacking people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, caste, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or serious illness, including slurs and hateful symbols.
- Sexual content: nudity, sexually explicit material or sexual comments about anyone.
- Violence or threats: threatening or encouraging violence, or glorifying it.
- Self-harm: promoting or encouraging suicide, self-harm or eating disorders.
- Spam and scams: unsolicited advertising, repeated or off-topic posts, fake giveaways, phishing, malware or schemes to take people's money or accounts.
- Misinformation: deliberately misleading content that could cause real harm.
- Illegal content, or content that encourages illegal activity.
- Intellectual property infringement: posting code, course material or media you don't have the right to share, or passing off someone else's work as yours.
An automated filter blocks slurs and hate terms before they're posted, and masks ordinary profanity. It doesn't catch everything, so reports still matter.
Reporting and blocking
Report: open the ⋯ menu on any thread, reply, showcase project, channel or crew message, course review, bounty submission or profile and choose Report. Pick a reason and add a note if it helps. Reports are confidential.
Block: choose Block user from the same menu, or from their profile. You won't see their posts, messages or replies, and they won't be notified. You can unblock people any time in Settings › Blocked users.
If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
How we review reports
Our moderators review every report within 24 hours. Depending on what we find, we may:
- take no action, if the content doesn't break these guidelines;
- remove the content;
- suspend the account that posted it, for serious or repeated violations.
A suspended account can't sign in or post. We may also report illegal content to the authorities. These guidelines are part of our terms of service.
Keeping young learners safe
Learners can be as young as 13. Never ask anyone for personal details, photos or to move a conversation somewhere private, and never post sexual content involving minors — we remove it, suspend the account and report it to the authorities.
If you're under 18 and someone makes you uncomfortable, report and block them, and tell a trusted adult.
